RIGHTS COMMISSION CHECKS EXTRA JUDICIAL MURDERS IN UP

The Human Rights Commission has asked the Government of Uttar Pradesh to give an ex gratia worth Rs 70.5 lakhs to the victims of fake encounter killings. The Commission was on its three-day mission in the state and had directed the police department to give explanations on all encounter killings and custodial deaths in the state. The Commission found that in many cases no appropriated procedure was followed; hence it asked the state government to pay compensation worth Rs 70.5 lakhs to the family of the victims.
